Cues to Form and Space Painting
Project type
Painting
Date
November 2025
This is my Visual Communication final project, reflecting McKim chapter 13: cues to form and space. McKim uses this chapter to explore how the eyes and brain interpret spatial relationships using the cues we have learned such as overlap, shading, texture, perspective, and scale. These cues create our perception of the space around us, and guide our perspective even on a flat surface. I wanted to practice using these cues to create the illusion of an impossible world.
Using McKim’s spatial theory in practice with surrealist art represents how perception constructs meaning in the viewer's eye. When you look at this scene I intend for the cues to guide your eyes and create the illusions of space.
